Sink Stopper Not Sealing

It s easy to fix a bathroom sink drain plug that s leaking.

Simply grip the stopper body and pull it out of the drain along with the hinged rocker arm. This is a repair you can do yourself. The left photo fig. If a sink won t hold water look up behind the sink with a flashlight if needed to identify the following parts.

Clear the stopper and rocker arm of hair and debris. If the seal is cracked or brittle the stopper should be replaced. Find replacement parts on amazon. Make sure the flange is tightly.

A seal made with plumber s putty may fail down the road if the putty becomes brittle and it cracks apart allowing water to pass through the seal. Lift the stopper out of the drain. A sink stopper mechanism isn t difficult to understand. Move the linkage up or down to a different hole to adjust the stopper movement.

It moves the stopper in the opposite direction to the lift rod. Remove the clip that holds the link in place by squeezing the clip ends together. A sink stopper with a push pull rod control at the faucet is a great modern convenience. When you push or pull on the lift rod it activates a lever the extends through the drain tailpiece.

When they do they are often unsightly and an irritation. But sink stoppers fail. Remove the old seal and slip on a new one if needed. Inspect the rubber seal on the bottom of the stopper head.

Fix a sink stopper. If your bath clicker drain is not clicking or sealing properly refer to the following troubleshooting information. Simply remove the plunger clean and if necessary replace. Start with the stopper on the clicker mechanism and make sure it is tightened down all the way.

A pivot rod that connects to the back of the drain pipe a perforated strap a clevis and a screw that locks the strap onto the stopper rod. Reinstall the stopper and rocker arm. Check the rubber seal for damage and if necessary replace it. If the drain stopper is not moving or closing check the adjustable link.

If it s still in good condition you can reuse it.
